The Power of a great song, a classic song, to communicate and move people of all walks of life, to cross all economic, racial, age and gender boundaries, this has fascinated Jill Kossoris all of her life.
Jill was raised in a musical household. No one could play an instrument, but the stereo played constantly! Her father owned a record shop in Milwaukee and was passionate about classical, 40's jazz, and piano boogie music, just to name a few. Jill awoke many mornings to the sight and incredibly loud sound of her father pretending to conduct Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, or pounding the table along with Gene Krupa. He later became a huge fan of Led Zeppelin! In the evening her mother would play Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison, or Johnny Cash.
At the same time Jill started taking piano lessons and became obsessed with classic and original songwriters like Burt Bacharach, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, and Holland-Dozier-Holland. She was also attracted to the manic energy of Elvis, the soul of Al Green, and the experimental stylings of Roxy Music. This wide variety of influences color the songs she writes today-a blend of emotionally charged lyrics and haunting melodies, within dramatically structured settings.
